How to avoid chilblains this winter

Usually found on the toes, Chilblains are itchy swellings on the skin caused by the cold temperature.

Symptoms of chilblains

A burning or itching sensation that becomes worse when you enter a warm room or warmer temperature. The skin will be red, pink or dark blue. Blisters can also develop.Avoid touching, scratching or rubbing the skin as this can make your chilblains painful and cause an infection.Seek medical advice if the chilblains do not improve within a few weeks or they become severe and re-occur

How to avoid chilblains

Wear closed shoes with socks when going out in cold weather. When returning from the cold allow your feet to warm up on their own, avoid toasting them in front of the fire or heater.
